For web sites, I prefer the open source Matomo. Self-hosted, so first-party cookies. Reports have what I need. And I'm not handing my (or my users) data to anyone.

That looks like a great option. I used Mint (haveamint.com) on my personal blog for a while, though unfortunately it's not supported now. Will have to check into Matomo.

Are you using this for any in-product analytics as well, or just general websites?

We use:
- Mixpanel for in-app analytics
- Google Data Studio for combining internal analytics from multiple sources
- Looker + Snowflake (Datawarehouse) + Stitch (to load data into Snowflake) for customer-facing analytics

I do use Google analytics but generating custom reports is headache. So I also use Matomo, mixpanel & hotjar to track users in my saas app. But for email tracking Google analytics is a good option.

Interesting, how are you tracking analytics in emails—with a campaign UTM? Does Matomo let you track specific UTMs on the end of URLs?

Amplitude for event based tracking (behavioral/user-based) but Tableau for handling giant data sets in a more affordable fashion and visualization.

I never really learned how to use GA. Recently, I started using Fathom and really enjoyed it using it so far. Clean, simple and does not need to ask cookie permissions from users.
