I've used 1Password for years now, and always kept my vault in Dropbox—though now that I'm not paying for Dropbox, and Dropbox limits the devices you can sync on free accounts, that's starting to be a limitation.
Is it worth switching to 1Password's own sync service, or do you sync your 1Password vault with iCloud or any other syncing service? What helped you make the choice?
I use 1password's own syncing service and also use multiple vaults (personal vault and work vault) and i have never experienced any issues, syncing is super fast and reliable.
I was using the iCloud sync for a few years but started experiencing some weird issues when syncing between multiple devices on different systems and networks (personal/enterprise). I also had some issues with other vaults and generally experiencing a bit of a delay between credential updates. Given iCloud's complexity, I switched over to the dedicated 1Password sync/membership service and couldn't be happier! Syncs feel quicker and the platform feels a bit more stable with how it handles the numerous vaults across devices. Plus, the membership cost seems super reasonable given my personal and professional use-cases.
Interesting, not too surprised on the iCloud issues. iCloud file sync in general seems mostly fine, but just inconsistent enough that you can't quite rely on it. Like, it feels like over time it'll get your stuff synced, but you can't guarantee the files will be synced as quickly/consistently as with Dropbox. Apple Photos often take an hour or so to show up across devices, for instance.
Dropbox sync with 1Password has generally been fine, and since I'm still on a standalone license I haven't tried 1Password's dedicated sync yet. Should make the switch eventually. Multiple vaults would help keep things more orderly, that's for sure.
I've been using the 1Password cloud service for about six months. Primarily for sharing secrets with a couple groups in the same company.
Travel mode (to temporarily remove vaults from your device, while going through customs) gets a lot of fans from frequent travelers.
The Watchtower feature, to alert you of potentially compromised accounts in your vaults, is a worthwhile aspect.
Travel Mode is definitely a neat idea, though I've never actually turned it on. You?
I only turned it on to try it out, since travel has been restricted for most of the time I've had their cloud service.
I've been using 1Password for years, syncing my vault in dropbox, then Google Drive.
Then last year, I decided to switch to the subscription plan.
Best move ever.
No more hassle or syncing problems. It's super easy to manage your vaults and share stuff. I have the family plan which means I can have a shared vault with many people, super useful.
To me, it's well worth the price.
I didn't realize syncing with Google Drive was an option!
Interesting, sounds like it was a great move. I literally just tried to use a recently created password on mobile and realized, oh wait, I had quit Dropbox on my MacBook and so the password didn't sync. It's the kind of thing that's better to just not have to think about.
For a few bucks per month, definitely lol
