Similar to Salesforce for CRM, seems like at some size many teams end up adopting Jira. What led your team to use it?
Jira for all it's "quirks" is still the best and most customisable to your workflow software out there. Not "opinionated" software . You can work with the the the way you want it, we have Epics and Stories ranging form 1/2 sentences to entire confluence dedicated to them.
Finally from the grapevine, I've heard they literally did a study on existing similarly built tools and found out they are the best in almost every category.
We chose it for a team, left it, chose it again, left it again, being in a relationship with Jira is difficult.
We choose it every time because of its massive market share and reputation.
We leave it because it is slow (I used it from Bangladesh) and complicated.

I actually love Rally. I don't think I will look for any other tool in the meantime. Although a lot of features in Rally looks like they are not that modern, but they get the job done perfectly!
